The art of digging deep

Currently I am at the Tour of Slovenia, a home race for my Pogi Team. I am sticking to the saying: “Once you win, once you learn“ and after so many years spent on the bike I seem to keep on learning. That’s also why I am writting this blog; to guide anyone on their way to pro-peloton or either just to show how does the other side of the medal look like, the stuff that noone sees, the sweat and tears, doubts and fears and things that nobody talks about…

One of the things I absolutely love about this sport is that those guys who are ready to hurt themselves the most actually win bike races (espesially those counter-gravity races). Like, at this point everybody has done everything to be in the best possible shape and it gets to the point where everybody is hurting and fighting their inner demons, but the person who is able to hurt him/herself the most, dig the deepest and go through the most pain actually wins the race.

It’s very interesting how much the mind means in this sport. It’s often that someone who went through a very hard time recently, for example lost their loved one, get’s the win in the end. I am not wishing that to anyone of course, but it’s interesting how much effect the mental state has. Climbers truly are real life gladiators to be able to go through so much pain.

Take care of yourself. It doesn’t matter how strong you are, if you’re not strong up there, it means nothing.

Over and out untill the nationals.
